OK BOSS

okboss recordS // 2017

OK BOSS IS A THEMATIC RECORD WRITTEN TO CHRONICLE THE EXPERIENCE OF LOSING MY FATHER.

IT IS THE SOUNDTRACK TO THE MOVIE THAT MY MEMORIES HAVE MADE TODAY. EACH SONG HAS A SIGNIFICANT MEANING AND REPRESENTS AN EMOTION OR EXPERIENCE. IT IS WRITTEN IN ORDER FROM THE BEGINNING OF HIS BATTLE TO THE END IN HOSPICE. THIS RECORD IS MEANT TO DOCUMENT MY FATHERS LAST TEN MONTHS ON EARTH.

OK BOSS WAS THE LAST TEXT MESSAGE MY DAD SENT.

IT WAS HIS RESPONSE TO ME LETTING HIM KNOW I HAD JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST HOUSE, AND WOULD SEE HIM SOON. MY DAD DIED OF CANCER AT THE AGE OF 50 ON OCTOBER 1ST, 2014. HE BATTLED FOR ROUGHLY TEN MONTHS AFTER BEING DIAGNOSED STAGE 4, GOING THROUGH BOTH RADIATION AND CHEMOTHERAPY.

THOSE TEN MONTHS WERE SOME OF THE BEST MONTHS MY FATHER AND I HAD.

DUE TO HIS ALCOHOLISM, WE HAD NOT BEEN CLOSE FOR ALMOST TEN YEARS. DURING HIS HIS FIGHT TO LIVE, WE BECAME BEST FRIENDS AND RECONCILED. HE EXPRESSED HIS PRIDE AND HIS LOVE; AND FINALLY LET ME UNDERSTAND WHO HE WAS. MY FAMILY AND I GREW CLOSER WITH HIM AND EACH OTHER AS WE TOOK CARE OF HIM AS BEST WE COULD.

THIS RECORD IS AS MUCH FOR ME AS IT IS FOR HIM.

YOU DO NOT RECOVER FROM LOSING A PARENT. YOU CAN ONLY REFLECT, LEARN, LOVE AND PUSH FORWARD. THIS RECORD IS MY TIME CAPSULE OF MY EXPERIENCE, FOR THE GOOD AND FOR THE BAD. IT IS AN AVENUE FOR MY EMOTIONS, ANGER, CONFUSION, JOY AND APPRECIATION. IF YOU'VE LOST SOMEONE, I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU FEEL SOMETHING. ALL PROCEEDS FROM DIGITAL AND PHYSICAL SALES WILL BE DONATED TO THE HOSPICE OF WESTERN RESERVE.
